Equality

A Unified Home for Equality Across Northern Virginia

A representative's fundamental duty is ensuring that every constituent, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, race, or background, can live safely, thrive economically, and participate fully in civic life. In Northern Virginia, diversity is our greatest strength, but protecting fundamental civil rights requires continuous, proactive leadership in Richmond.

Why This Matters to Arlington

While Virginia has made key strides in civil rights protections, critical gaps remain in healthcare access, wage parity, protective infrastructure for LGBTQ+ youth, and safeguarding foundational liberties. Breanna is committed to making the District 1 Delegate Office a clear advocate for equity, protecting bodily autonomy, and advancing policies that uplift women and minority communities across the Commonwealth.

Key Legislative Priorities

1. The Virginia Equal Pay & Career Transparency Act

Breanna Fights For: "Closing the Wage Gap and Empowering Working Women."

Despite decades of advocacy, women in Virginia continue to face significant gender and racial pay disparities, particularly working mothers and women of color. Lack of wage transparency in hiring allows systemic inequality to persist unchecked in both the public and private sectors.

  • What it does: Requires employers with 15 or more employees to include transparent pay scales in job postings, bans the use of prospective employees' salary history during hiring, and protects workers from retaliation for discussing compensation.

  • Why it matters: It promotes fair competition, ensures women and minority professionals are paid equally for equal work, and provides working families in Arlington with the economic security they deserve.

2. The LGBTQ+ Inclusive Schools & Youth Protection Act

Breanna Fights For: "Safe Classrooms and Support for Every Student."

Recent political attacks and restrictive state guidance have aimed to undermine protections for LGBTQ+ students in public schools, leading to increased rates of bullying, mental health struggles, and dynamic instability for vulnerable youth.

  • What it does: Reinstates and standardizes statewide, evidence-based non-discrimination policies in all public K-12 schools, ensuring transgender and non-binary students have access to safe facilities, accurate records, and designated supportive school resources. It expands state grant funding for LGBTQ+-inclusive youth mental health services.

  • Why it matters: It ensures school districts across Northern Virginia remain safe, welcoming environments where all students can focus on learning without fear of harassment or political target-setting.
